I am processing through poetry. I am curious about pattern and consequence, documenting the moment and cross-checking my records with history. Simplicity is important to me. I communicate plainly because I am speaking in feelings. The power of plainness is undeniable. It has served me well in bridging gaps across lines of difference. In this moment, I am driven by a longing to connect; to my roots, my family, my friends, my environment, my body. Since my first nest residency I’ve taken up boxing and online Persian–language classes.
It is and isn’t: I’m interested in the (often cliché) ways we speak about ordinary things. The mysterious and unearned protection of LUCK. How we make boring and muddled taboos of everyday life. I am interested to hear about how the very specific thing that I’m talking about is something you’ve also experienced– and I believe you. With my Nest work I am trying to say that we’re not so far apart but maybe I don’t need to – maybe you already know. Through an audio-visual set, I will be asking a lot of questions; I am uber curious about how different people use different words to give the same answer: “I don’t know but I know!”
