Los Skandalosos

Los Skandalosos Live at In the Soil Arts Festival

A band of Mexican migrant farm workers who will share their favourite Mexican music, including original songs.

Event Description

Audiences will have the opportunity to meet and engage with Mexican migrant farm workers who come to temporarily live and work in the Niagara Region. They grow our food. They are poets, artists, musicians, philosophers, care givers, knowledge holders of soil, farmers, parents, people of faith, etc. They will play their instruments and sing their favourite songs and share a piece of their precious Mexican culture through music, smiles and passion. Migrant farm workers sacrifice a lot to be here and they look forward to being seen as members of the community.

A note on the venue:

Please note that Robertson Hall (The Robby), may be having its courtyard redone during the time of the Festival. If this construction is happening during the Festival, you will only be able to enter and exit through the back doors.

If you are using a map app, please enter 26 Raymond Street as the address. This is the address for the parking lot behind The Robby, which leads to the back doors.

Unfortunately the back entrance is not accessible for people using mobility devices as there is a set of four steps at this entryway. We are currently looking into ways to ensure everyone can access this venue, and we will update you as soon as we can to whether or not this venue is fully accessible.

Los Skandalosos are a group of poets and musicians from Mexico who temporarily live and work as migrant farm workers in the Niagara Region. There love of music brings them together to uplift each other's spirits and the spirits of their fellow migrant farm worker community in the farms. The band is open to any migrant farm worker who wants to join, even if they don't play an instrument, they are welcome to sing and be part of the band. The lead singer Gabriel Camacho writes original songs about life as a migrant farm worker that he shares at various community events, including advocacy events about migrant justice.
