Remembering The Sacred (LOR)
As a queer person of colour, healing spaces aren’t very accessible. Mindfulness practices and art spaces are predominantly occupied by white folks. So I can’t help but ask, where does one like me belong?
‘Remembering The Sacred’ is both a personal ritual and collective invitation to attune to our inherent divinity, wisdom and embodied agency to belong ourselves.
I share pieces of my lived experience and the prayer that holds me as a reflection of the healing power that exists within all of us. We have the ability to alchemize our personal suffering into embodied liberation. Healing our relationship with ourselves - and our bodies - heals the collective and the Earth. This is our responsibility, and sharing this work is in service to this sacred mission.
Form(s) (shn shn)
A piece a following a journey of unfolding self-awareness and self-fulfillment coming from an external and internal lens. One not more significant than the other and intended to be listened to either from first to last or last to first. The three pieces are first light(internal) one after another(transition) IAWIA(external). Collectively named Form(s). I want listeners to daydream, let their minds wander and fall into the pieces of music.
Please note: This performance will only take place on Friday and Sunday of the RHIZOMES program.
Electronic experimental pop artists, shn shn, exists somewhere in her own lane. Creating from a space of curiosity, contemplation and care, they question the nature of existence in this bizarre, absurd and exciting world. Formerly performing under the singer-songwriter lyric-based moniker of Shanika Maria, shn shn was born out of an interest in production in 2019 as a way to explore sounds, feelings and movement that words couldn’t really express. shn shn has self-released three EPs: structura (2020) and e.strange.d (2021) and Form(s) EP (2023). shn shn continues to expand her practice by providing music for dance performance, film, theater, as well as being commissioned to remix other artists' work.
"shn shn's strength resides in transporting her listeners to another country, time or planet - wherever she decides to take us." - Exclaim!
"Hypnotizing, unique, well-intended and tactfully alerting" -Music Dances When You Sleep
"evocative blend of movement and stillness" -Various Small Flames
"words, phrases, and questions she repeats are building blocks for your own reflections." -Dominated
_________
Lor (she/they) is a Filipinx interdisciplinary artist, exploring art practices as an avenue for healing and healing as a catalyst for art creation.
As a somatic dancer, coach and movement teacher, she resources her lived experience as a queer and neurodivergent woman of colour, combined with the collective dis-ease, to inform her work.
Dance has become her refuge and practice of liberation. She expresses and integrates personal and intergenerational healing as she leans into the process of somatic remembering.
Lor's art practices aim to inspire folks made to be marginalized in their journey of healing, liberation and authentic expression.
