Celebrate the launch of our 16th annual In the Soil Arts Festival with Soft Animals and The Uplifters with special guest Charles Spearin!
Festival Launch Event Schedule:
Soft Animals is the musical project of Sean Aileen, Iain Ellis, Graham Morley, and Jordan Phelan. With songs written by singer-songwriter Sean Aileen over the last three years, the band’s music attempts to capture the transitional and hard-to-put-your-finger-on moments of life. The band continues to flesh out an ever evolving sound with its elements of ethereal progressive folk. With a mix of seasoned musicians, theatre veterans, and good friends, Soft Animals aims to create musical experiences that connect audiences in an intimate and more deeply felt human way.
The Uplifters are Michael Herring (bass), Dave Clark (drums) and Jason Kenemy (piano). They love playing the funkiest-nerd-rockingest New Orleans inspired music they can muster for you, for them, for he, for she, for everyone for goodness sakes! Spearin is a multi-instrumentalist who has been an active and influential member of Canada's independent music community since the mid 1990's. He is primarily known as a founding member of the instrumental post-rock ensemble Do Make Say Think and an original member of the indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene.
