Mark Cotoia is an improv teacher, producer and performer. He began producing large-scale improv shows with a sellout of The Second City Toronto featuring legendary duo TJ & Dave in their first ever Canadian show. He’s also produced Toronto firsts with Susan Messing, Todd Stashwick, and The Upright Citizens Brigade. Mark can be seen teaching improv at Willow Arts Community and performing in shows he produces monthly at Mahtay Cafe. He hopes to bring more longform improvisation to the Niagara region.
For Scratch Night Mark is putting together a Niagara-based experiment of the popular NYC and LA show Gravid Water, created by Stephen Ruddy. Actors bring real scenes from real plays that they prepare as they would for a regular play. They are paired with improvisers who have no prior knowledge of the scenes - seeing and reacting to them for the first time on stage. The results can be hilarious, heartbreaking and everything in between.
