Bruce McCulloch, an Albertan punk and son of a salesman, grew up playing hockey, listening to rock music and fist-fighting cowboys. He took business at Mount Royal College and when he predictably got 20% he segued to journalism and started writing funny stories. He soon found himself at Loose Moose Theatre: home of theatre sports (competitive improv), where he met Mark McKinney, and his future was set. They started writing and performing together, later moving to Toronto to “make it.” In Toronto, he and Mark found the other members of The Kids in the Hall, and Bruce built the foundations for a career spanning television, theatre, and film.
Brian Connelly is founding member of Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, a Juno Award-winning Canadian instrumental rock band, formed in 1984. They remain best known for the track "Having an Average Weekend", of which an alternate version was used as the theme to the Canadian sketch comedy TV show The Kids in the Hall.[1] Although commonly classified as a surf rock band[1] they rejected the label, going so far as to release a track called "We're Not a Fucking Surf Band",[2] although they also later released a compilation box set titled Oh, I Guess We Were a Fucking Surf Band After All.
