WindRush - The Stories We Travel With

Created, Written + Performed by Marcel Stewart

An intimate evening of storytelling, reflection, and performance.

Event Description

What does it mean to leave home? What does it mean to carry it with you?

WindRush - The Stories We Travel With is an intimate evening of storytelling, reflection, and performance from artist Marcel Stewart.

Drawing from family histories, personal memories, and the research that inspired the development of his solo show WindRush, Marcel shares stories of belonging, migration, identity, and home. Throughout the evening, these stories are woven together with selected excerpts from WindRush, offering audiences a rare glimpse into both the work itself and the journeys that shaped it.

Spanning Jamaica, England, and Canada, WindRush - The Stories We Travel With explores the stories we inherit, the stories we choose to tell (and the ones we don’t tell), and the stories we leave behind for future generations.

Part storytelling event, part intimate conversation, and part oral history, this special presentation invites audiences to reflect on the journeys that shape who we become.

About WindRush:

WindRush is a live concept album created by Marcel Stewart. It follows the journey of a Jamaican man across generations as he navigates identity, belonging, and what it means to grapple with the past while trying to move forward. Using immersive sound, storytelling, and visual design, WindRush brings to life Caribbean histories that are often overlooked or forgotten in Canada. The show invites audiences to reflect on family, resilience, and the idea of home—how we carry it, lose it, and remake it.

About the Artists

Marcel (he/him) is a father, award-winning theatre maker, director, writer, educator, and arts administrator who serves as one of the co-curators for FOLDA (Festival of Live Digital Art). Marcel’s curiosity about history and lineage, beyond the context of colonialism, is at the basis of his artistic practice. He creates experiences that connect audiences to cultural memory while pushing the boundaries of how stories are told and shared. His practice explores the use of digital technologies such as spatial audio, projection, and augmented reality as integral tools for meaning-making. He is especially interested in how performance can be activated through interactivity, intimacy, and non-traditional forms of gathering. As a director, Marcel has worked on podcasts, digital productions, and live theatre. As an educator, Marcel teaches and facilitates programs for artists and students across all levels. He has taught at the National Theatre School of Canada, Brock University, and Sheridan College. Marcel often returns to the questions: Who am I? How am I? How did I get here? Who have I lost? What is my purpose?
