Suitcase in Point is a multi-arts organization that produces and presents arts experiences to inspire a healthier, more connected community.

We grow the arts and artists of Niagara by creating, producing and presenting new artistic work in multiple disciplines, and by nurturing local artists through mentorship, residencies and professional development.

Production Assistant (3 positions available)

Contract Duration and Details: 10 weeks, 30 hrs per week x $15-$20/hour

Location: St. Catharines, ON

Anticipated start date: Monday, May 23, 2022

Job Description: 

Production Assistants will work with Suitcase in Point staff to hone and develop skills in technical production for both online and in person events over the summer season.  

Production Assistants will have the opportunity to learn from professional arts workers to develop skills in digital performance technology, lighting, audio and video technology, developing production schedules, identifying technical needs of productions, collaboration with other technical and artistic staff, maintenance and organization of technical equipment, how to technically advancing productions and communicate with artists/producers, safety standards and protocols, leadership and team building. 

Due to COVID-19, some duties will be carried out remotely and online. Any in-person work related tasks will strictly and respectfully be carried out following health care official guidelines All necessary PPE will be supplied. Hired personnel will require access to Wi-Fi and a computer with video and audio capabilities.

Hired personnel are also expected to be able to work events in the Niagara region, usually downtown St. Catharines. A car or reliable form of transportation will be necessary.

  • Assist the Production Coordinator in maintenance of technical assets;
  • Assist with all technical aspects of both online and in-person presentations, performances and installations;
  • Participate in learning opportunities to develop understanding of new performance technologies and platforms; 
  • Assist with production set up, tear down, and operation of live events;
  • Assist in artist communications, development of schedules, budgets and work to  achieve vision of various projects;
  • Learn and assist with operations of light, audio and video technologies for various presentations and various venues (outdoor, site-specific, theatres and online);
  • Assist in making all events safe, accessible and be available to develop quick solutions and problem solve with the team; 
  • Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of studio space and maintenance/organization of all technical assets;
  • Adhere to Suitcase in Point’s Policy to Promote a Culture of Anti-Racism, Anti-Harassment and Equity
  • Additional duties as determined.

Outreach and Program Coordinator (2 positions available)

Job Description and Terms of Agreement:

The Outreach and Program Coordinator will work with Suitcase in Point staff to hone and develop skills in community outreach, program development, marketing and arts administration for a not-for-profit / charitable arts organization. 

Hired personnel will have the opportunity to learn from professional arts workers to develop skills in communications, project management, event coordination, marketing, scheduling and maintaining administrative functions.

Due to COVID-19, most duties will be carried out remotely and online. Any in-person work related tasks will strictly and respectfully be carried out following health care official guidelines All necessary PPE will be supplied. Hired personnel will require access to Wi-Fi and a computer with video and audio capabilities.

  • Assist with general administrative, marketing and event coordination tasks in relation to all summer programs including In the Soil Arts Festival, The Nest Artist Residency showcase and Electric Innovations;
  • Assist with and participate in digital filing, organization of digital data
  • Assist with dissemination and reporting of audience, artist and participant feedback surveys;;
  • Assist in organizing, scheduling and training of event volunteers; 
  • Assist with invoicing, filing, tracking and financial data-entry and reporting;
  • Assist with event logistics, scheduling, event rentals, set up and tear down for summer events and programs;; 
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings; project and production meetings; forums; and specific one-on-one mentorship meetings;
  • Take detailed and action oriented meeting notes to share with various teams; 
  • Adhere to Suitcase in Point’s Policy to Promote a Culture of Anti-Racism, Anti-Harassment and Equity;
  • Additional duties as determined.
