Celebrating 20 years with an eye to the future!
Join us Sunday December 19th for The Big Time Holiday Telethon!
In the spirit of giving and of good times, Suitcase in Point invites you to join us for a special, online live “telethon” on Sunday December 19 at 7pm.
To celebrate the eve of the 20th day of our 20th Anniversary fundraising campaign, Suitcase in Point’s Artistic Director Deanna Jones will host an evening of treats including interviews with special guests, comedy clips, pop-ins from Suitcase in Point correspondents around the globe, music, games and more!
We have been so humbled and overwhelmed with support from the community in our aim to raise $20,000 for our 20th season. With just a couple of days to go in our 20th season launch, we hope to encourage a little more love before the holidays as we get set for a bustling new year of arts programming.

Friends of Suitcase share some love
Suitcase in Point has been a home to me for the past 20 years. I am so honoured to be connected to an arts organization that continues to grow with the challenges that the world present. SIPs most impressive qualities are their ability to be inclusive, open and facilitative of many ideas, artists and artistic modes. The best outcome of their work is the joy that they bring to the arts and the community.
Congratulations on 20 years, Suitcase in Point! I am forever grateful for all of the opportunities that you have provided for me over this past year. It’s been great to get to know everyone over at Suitcase in Point and to develop these relationships and friendships. I really appreciate it! In order to keep the party going, I encourage you to donate today.
A bunch of totally radical, utterly charming, gloriously funny and kind, stunningly attractive and wildly talented humans descended on the One Yellow Rabbit Lab many years ago. The told us they were making a theatre company in St. Catherines Ontario and they proceeded to make us fall in love over and over again with one and all of their number. They also made that theatre company and it’s downright shocking to find out that they are now celebrating their 20th Anniversary. We still love you all madly, you theatre freaks and geeks. CONGRATULATIONS TO SUITCASE IN POINT from One Yellow Rabbit in Calgary!!!!!!!! P.S. To all of you reading this quote: Send these people some love and some dough. They are doing something beautiful in your community!!!
What I remember most about the early days of SIP was laughing so hard. Like pee your pants hard. And at the silliest things. For Be Wearing Wolf, I remember sitting in front of a big mirror with Dee and coming up with the most ridiculous characters who took themselves incredibly seriously. If we cracked each other up, it made it into the show. I also remember running through the woods, covered in mud and howling. That was probably for the photo shoot. But it also could have been character work. Or a Friday night after a cabaret.
Where will my donation go?
Donations will directly support three main areas of Suitcase in Point’s operations:
- The In the Soil Arts Festival, including artist fees, production costs and community outreach initiatives;
- Original Suitcase in Point programming, including comedy cabarets, mixtapes, site-specific experiences and special projects;
- The Suitcase in Point Arts Mentorship Program, including our Nest Artist Residency and Electric Innovations theatre intensive.
Will I receive a charitable tax receipt for my donation?
Yes. Donations are collected through canadahelps.org, and a charitable tax receipt will be issued.
How can my business or organization support Suitcase in Point?
We are always looking to partner with local organizations that wish to support the arts and align themselves with a creative, risk-taking company and our engaged audiences. We have a variety of flexible opportunities available, from program-specific sponsorships to hospitality partnerships and more. Charitable cash donations are also greatly appreciated, and a charitable tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the donation value. Contact us today to find out more about corporate and community sponsorship and donor opportunities.
Where does Suitcase in Point get funding from?
The majority of our funding is through municipal, provincial and federal grants. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, our strategic planning process identified a need to rely less on government grants and public funding and to earn more revenue through ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships. This goal became next to impossible during the pandemic.
Historically, we have been able to earn a respectable level of revenue through sponsorships, box office sales and concessions at events like the In the Soil Arts Festival, our comedy cabarets, and more. Through 2020-2021, we understood that our long-lasting supporters, neighbours and friends were all struggling to make ends meet and we were lucky to have government support to continue to work with artists in new ways. We didn’t stop and we delivered all of our programs on a pay-what-you-can or free basis.
As you can imagine, our ability to generate revenue through programming was greatly restricted by the inability to hold in-person events.
As we look ahead to a bombastic (but safe!) return to in-person gatherings in 2022, donations received through this campaign will go directly toward our exciting 20th season of programming that will support working artists and engage local audiences.
